(Please note: we do have owls, snakes and ravens at our facility)

November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor the diverse cultural histories of Indigenous people in America.

 

Throughout history Native Americans have maintained a special connection with the animals in their natural world, one that has shaped and sustained their culture.

 

The Liberty Wildlife Non-Eagle feather Repository (LWNEFR) will be celebrating Native American Heritage Month by recognizing this connection with a celebration that will include.

 

Schedule of Events:

10:00am – Liberty Wildlife doors open, and the Celebration begins!

10:30am – 10:45am: Blessing of the Eagle

10:45am – 11:00am: Gila River Basket Dance Group

11:00am – 11:15am: Bird Singing and Dancing by the River Group

11:15am – 11:30am: Allen King, Northern traditional Dancer

11:30am -11:45am: Liberty Wildlife bird of prey show

11:45pm – 12:00pm: Salt River Traditional Dancers

12:00pm – 12:45pm:The Sinquah Family Hoop Dancers

* Interactive Room and Education Trail open with Ambassador Animals out all day

* Native American Vendors on site from 10am-4:30pm

* Beverages and snacks on sale all day (cash and Venmo)

 

 

Come honor the Connection!

 

The Celebration will take place at Liberty Wildlife, 2600 E. Elwood St., Phoenix, Arizona 85040

 

 

Featured artists include:

 

The Sinquah Family Hoop Dancers

 The Sinquah Family (Scott, Sampson, and Moontee), is an entertaining, inspiring, and educational dance troupe that consists of World Champion Hoop Dancers.

Scott a champion Fancy War dancer, in the USA and Canada, Sampson is a champion Prairie Chicken dancer, and Moontee is a champion Grass dancer.

 

 

Allen King, Northern Traditional Dancer

The Northern Traditional dance evokes the style of Plains Indians, their hunting parties and warriors, their traditional regalia, and their bravery and courage. Two of the dances Alan will be performing are the Sneak-Up Song and the Crow Hop.

 

The Salt River Traditional Dancers

 This group began with a focus on providing an opportunity for its members to gain more knowledge of O’odham culture and traditions through song and dance, with the goal of passing those teachings on to future generations. They will be performing their traditional basket dance.

 

Bird Singing and Dancing by the River Group

Their performance will be highlighted with their young dancers doing the quail dance.

 

Gila River Basket Dancing Group

This group will be performing the traditional Gila River Basket Dance

 

Edwin De Luna

Will be exhibiting his extensive collection of Native American Regalia and paraphernalia.
