Mesquite Tree

About Mesquite Tree

Mesquite (Prosopis spp.)

• Long-lived, low water desert adapted legume that fixes nitrogen in poor desert soils, improving fertility for nearby plants.
• Produces nectar, flowers and protein-rich bean pods that feed bees, birds, small mammals and livestock.
• Provides perches, nest sites and shade for birds and small mammals; deep roots access groundwater and stabilize soil.
