There isn't anything much cuter than a stream of baby quail running at top speed to keep up with the covey. If you have ever been lucky enough to watch a mother quail pick a spot in your yard, lay her eggs and sit valiantly on them to hatching time, you'll know what cute means. But, if you have watched another mother, say a finch or a mockingbird, at hatching time, what you see is a very different strategy. And often cute isn't exactly the word used to describe her hatchlings.

Here's why.







This time of year, the staff and volunteers at Liberty Wildlife treat a steady stream of injured animals - our intake averages around twenty animals per day. Although the injuries and illnesses can be heartbreaking to behold, it is gratifying when lives are saved. Mostly there is a sense of honor to witness the beauty and determination that characterizes these wild creatures.
